The 2021 Cote de Beaune Rouge from Joseph Drouhin offers a delightful harmony with a beautiful purple color. On the nose, it reveals delicate and fruity aromas such as strawberry and red currant. The palate is characterized by refined tannins that give the wine a nice roundness and an elegant aftertaste. This wine is a true delight and showcases the expertise of Joseph Drouhin in winemaking. It is made from grapes grown on the hill overlooking the city of Beaune and combines vines from the Joseph Drouhin estate with younger vines from Clos des Mouches and other Premier Crus of Beaune that have been declassified. The soil is chalky and not very deep, with a steep slope and south/south-east exposure. This particular wine has been awarded 93 points by James Suckling (2019), 91 points by Wine Enthusiast (2019), and 91 points by James Suckling (2020). It is recommended to decant for 1 hour before serving at a temperature of 16°C (61-62°F) and can be enjoyed optimally between 5 to 8 years, with an aging potential of up to 10 years. It pairs well with main dishes such as chicken or rabbit accompanied by vegetables and is excellent with cheeses.
