Peaty & Citrusy
Today the Dragon (in Welsh, Y Ddraig) is the proud national flag of Wales. This fiery creature is close to our hearts. It is thought that the ancient Welsh kings were using the dragon as a royal emblem by the early 5th century AD. In this they followed Roman cohorts that carried hollow metal 'draco' standards, through which the wind howled, to instill fear in their foes.
The Making of Celt
Our unique copper stills are charged with a fermented barley 'wash'. This is distilled to produce a flavourful spirit of extraordinary strength and purity which is married with water from the Brecon Beacons before maturing in the finest oak casks.
Penderyn Celt is a Peated whisky which stems from the maturation of the light and fruity Penderyn spirit in the finest Kentucky ex-bourbon barrels first and then in richly peated Islay casks.
Tasting Notes
Mild aromas of peat smoke, early morning at a rocky seaside and warm marmalade-on-toast all compete for our attention. A very fresh and clean whisky, beautifully distilled gives pleasure from the very first sip. In the mouth it begins with great sweetness before the smoky, slightly medicinal flavours descend. Slight bitterness follows that leaves a long lingering fresh taste in the mouth.
Nose: Peat smoke. Warm marmalade on toast.
Palate: Sweet. Smoky with medicinal flavours.
Finish: Slight bitterness, with a lingering freshness.
